Where is the reply function in IOS 16? I have this opened exactly as this article shows and there is no reply button.

I have an iPhone SE, OS 16 and where is the REPLY button when I only want to reply to the sender of a text and not the entire group?

How or where do I access this function? The article shows a picture with a reply button when you click on the sender bubble message, no such reply button shows up.

You actually have to Touch and Hold on the sender’s message and the Reply menu will appear. NOTE: This only works with iMessages (Blue Bubble) and NOT with SMS Messages (Green Bubble).

Furthermore, If you are in a group text and pick an iMessage from a specific sender and choose to reply to it by using the method shown above, then that response will NOT be private. Everyone in the group will still see your response to that specific iMessage.

The replies you send will have the green or blue bubble, the ones you receive will have a gray or some type of similar background. If you click on one of the incoming texts and look at the send button in the reply field (the arrow pointing up) it will be either green or blue depending on whether it is an iMessage or SMS text.

No, the tower it is sent through is not the determining factor. iMessages use either cellular data or WiFi. If you are someplace that you cannot get a cell signal because you aren't near any tower but there is a WiFi hotspot you can connect with you can still send and receive iMessages but not SMS/MMS.

SMS/MMS use the cell voice network when on cellular (not cell data like iMessage. Those towers belong to cell service operators and the cell voice network is controlled by them. The colors tell you the system that is being used.

But why is the incoming bubble gray and not also blue or green as they also either come thru SMS or WiFi so why won't it show the correct incoming color too? That way I can fully understand what's happening. I would know my incoming text is iMessage or the other.

If it doesn't matter how the message is being received (SMS/Imsg) then why does it matter sending?

I've owned an iPhone for 7 years and never knew there was any type of difference in capability between colors. In fact I only think I have green. Does anyone even care how it's sent?

If you are in a conversation with a contact (person) and your sent message is in a Blue Bubble, then both of you are texting using iMessages. If your sent message is in a Green Bubble,, then both of you are texting using SMS messaging. In short, the only way iMessage will work is if BOTH parties have iMessage activated on their iPhones. Otherwise, it SMS is used.

To me, understanding how a message is being sent/received matters. You may review this article on the internet to understand 👉 The Difference Between iMessage and SMS Message.
