iCloud (Windows 10 Microsoft app) error: Unable to sign you in to your Apple ID. Try again later

I've reset my password, uninstalled/reinstalled the app, and attempted to run as administrator (error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item"). I'm able to sign in on my iPhone and at icloud.com.

iCloud is my main file-syncing service between my Surface Pro and my iPhone, so I'd love to get it running again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I finally stumbled on an answer: Sign in to icloud.com by using Microsoft Edge, which should produce the usual two-factor prompt from your Apple devices. (I had been logging into iCloud via Firefox.) Now that Edge is trusted, sign in to iCloud for Windows. Because iCloud for Windows apparently relies on Edge WebView, it can now produce a two-factor prompt.

Definitely not intuitive. I discovered this fix because I looked at Task Manager while the iCloud for Windows login window was open and saw that iCloud had several Edge WebView subprocesses.

Djmajee, I tried your suggestion the same day you posted it and got nothing (besides the same error message as before), but today I opened Edge on a whim and was still logged in. Then I opened iCloud for Windows and was able to log in with no issues. I have no idea what finally did it, but I wouldn't be surprised if your fix contributed. Thank you!
