Face ID not working after 16.0.2

I've updated my iphone to the latest OS and FaceID no longer works. I've tried restarting the phone and resetting FaceID but that doesn't work.

On resetting FaceID I keep getting the message 'move the phone lower'. It's not able to scan my face. There are hundreds of articles, and threads on other blogs and sites with the same problem but nothing official from Apple.

I can rollback to OS to 15 but I just lose a few days data so hoping there is a fix before I do that.
