Syncing contacts with Ipad

My contacts from my iphone do not sync properly with my Ipad.

I can add a contact to my Ipad and it appears on my iphone.

I can remove a contact from my Ipad and it is removed from my iphone.

I can remove a contact from my iphone and it is removed from my Ipad

BUT if I add a contact on my iphone it does not appear on my Ipad.

I have tried updates and switching both off and on.

Hey there R303CarolW,

Let's check a couple of other settings, so we're sure iCloud is set up for Contacts on your iPhone.

  1. Settings > Tap your name > iCloud > Scroll down to Contacts, and verify that's enabled.

If it wasn't, keep your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi and power for awhile, so your contacts can sync with iCloud.

2. Settings > Contact > Make iCloud the default account, so that newly added contacts go to iCloud.

Let us know if those settings resolve the issue.

Thanks!

Hi R303CarolW,

If you have access to a computer, try adding a new contact on your iPhone. Then go to iCloud.com, sign in with your Apple ID and select the Contacts icon. Do you see the new contact added there?

See this section for troubleshooting "iCloud.com" found in If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support.

iCloud.com
If all your updates don't appear or you have another issue, try these steps on iCloud.com:
1. Update your browser and clear the cache.
2. If updates from other devices don't appear, open another app on iCloud.com, like Mail. Then go back to the Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders app.
3. Sign out of iCloud.com, then sign back in.
4. Clear your browsing history. Choose History > Clear History.

Since the iCloud Birthdays calendar updates daily, changes to birthdays might not appear in the Calendars app until the next day.

Reach back out if you need us.

Take care!

Hello R303CarolW,

This would be the account that was selected in Settings > Contacts, prior to setting that to iCloud.

Depending on what kind of account that was, you'll want to reach out to the provider of that account. They should be able to provide you with steps for how to export your contacts for uploading to another service.

Once they do, these steps can help with how to import your contacts to iCloud: Import or export a vCard in Contacts on iCloud.com - Apple Support

Hope this helps!
