Apple 3 year Australian warranty for MacBook Air

I went to an apple store with my macbookair and was told that I was out of the 3 year warranty.

is there anywhere that states this as I need to make a claim on my insurance

It will be on your purchase receipt (which you should always keep) and/or the Applecare registration certificate.
