iMac Orange Dot in Upper Right Corner

Should I be concerned about the "active recording" red light indicator in the upper right of my menu bar? Especially since I'm not recording anything.?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.5

if you see that dot, it would indicate that your microphone is indeed in use. is it possible that you've started any type of recording, but did not click the "stop button" that shows up on your menubar when you launch a recording?

or were you using anything like zoom or FaceTime, etc, that you didn't quit?

FWIW, Boom 2D and 3D will enable the "dot" despite not having access to the mic or being able to record. There are probably others.

I have nothing like that running. I restarted the computer and the dot went off. But it's disturbing why I was unable to locate the reason for the mic being in recording mode.

No. No recording of any kind. Zoom is closed. FaceTime is closed. I noticed it, because even while watching Apple TV (now closed) the dot was still there. I thought maybe it had to with the "Enable Ask Siri" button being checked, but I turned that off and the dot's still there.
