Full Disk Access no longer working for "terminal" and other programs

I just updated to Monterey 12.5.1.

Launching terminal works, but when attempt to access directories on an external drive, they are not found. The directories are visible in Finder and in TextEdit. This had been working up until the update.

I've done the Security & Privacy -> Full Disk Access add process several times. No joy.

What is going on here? I can see ONE directory on the external drive: /Volumes/Extern1/Users. I cannot see, for instance, /Volumes/Extern1/opt.

The "Sharing & Permissions" for both Users and opt are identical. All other attributes (other than dates) are identical.

As I say, this worked prior to the update to 12.5.1

I see no change here in 12.5.1

Can you clarify the issue —is you can not add Terminal to Full Disk Access...(?)

Have you rebooted more than once since updating?

Have you tried a complete shutdown and restart?

if n o insight or resolve—

—SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
