I currently cannot access my hotmail account with the iPhone app. I get the message “Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed”. I can, however, access hotmail via iPhone Safari. This problem only appears to be iPhone-specific as iPad mail works fine.
I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro with IOS 15.6

Are you able to delete the hotmail account on your iPhone and then add it back again? See whether that resolves the issue.

This worked thanks, although I did add a copy of my hotmail account first to see if it would solve the problem before deleting the original one.
You probably have 2 step-verfication enabled for Microsoft Account. In that case you need to generate an App Specific (iOS Mail) Password for Hotmail --> Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step ...
However you can continue to use your password for Outlook App, Safari, Chrome or on any other browser.
