App Store Gift Cards does currency matter?

Hello I have a question about the App Store gift cards. I am from Germany so my App Store currency is set to Euro, but now I am on vacation in the UK and here everything is in Pounds. So my question is, if I buy a gift card here and want to redeem it, will that work? Or is there a problem because of the currency differences?
