Safari asking for security key instead of Face ID

When logging into a website that’s set up with Face ID, Safari is instead prompting:

”Do you want to sign in to [website] using a security key?

Insert and activate your security key or bring it near the top of your iPhone.”

I’ve never set up a security key, and this website previously worked with FaceID. I’m running iOS 15.6.

Unable to turn off Face ID required to open safari A few weeks ago I got a promotion asking if I wanted to turn on Face ID for safari, and I said yes, thinking that I could turn it off if it was annoying. It is annoying, and takes a few seconds to authenticate when I open a browser, or even worse when I need to enter my pin. I’ve tried to turn it off but I can’t, and neither can Apple support. I’ve found the option for Face ID for private browsing but this is all browsing. It’s really frustrating, my advice to anyone else who gets that prompt is say no!

Required Face ID for private browsing I have turned on require Face ID for private browser in safari setting and it still doesn’t work. Private browser still just opens without Face ID requirement. I have newest ios 18.2 update and a 16 pro max. Can anyone know why Face ID turn on for private browser? Workers on all other apps.
