It’s been over 24 hours and my data transfer is still not complete between my old and new MacBooks. What could be the problem?

If there are many GBs of data, and the Mac is old, then it will take some time.

How old is old and how long to wait? My old Mac is 9 years old, so I likely fall in that category, but I left mine running overnight when it said it would take about 23+hours to complete. This morning, it is estimating 53+ hours. Is it best to physically connect the two Macs as opposed to going over WiFi, to increase the speed?
My old Mac is 10 years old. What do I need to connect the 2 computers. Thanks.
