If you were to restart the iPhone and/or computer, does anything change? The phone should be unlocked when connected and the computer should be trusted when prompted for iTunes to detect the iPhone.
Another suggestion would be to reinstall iTunes, whether you got it from the Microsoft Store or from Apple.com if this is a Windows PC.
I have rebooted both my phone and my computer with no change (phone not recognized by iTunes.
I also removed the existing version of iTunes, and downloaded and installed the latest 64-bit version of iTunes. Again, there was no change (phone not recognized by iTunes).
You mentioned getting a prompt asking if the computer be trusted. That prompt never appeared on my phone.
The most recent version of iTunes (on the day of writing this) is 12.12.4.1, so by my calculations you are at least six updates behind.
As far as I'm aware, iOS 15 (on your phone) requires that iTunes be on at least version 12.12.0.6. I suggest therefore that you begin by downloading the most recent version. You can do this by click on Help/Check for Updates from the iTunes top bar menu. There will be prompts to help you and you do not need to delete or remove the existing version in order to do this.
iTunes may update in stages, so once the update is complete, iTunes will check for and install further updates until the most recent one is installed.
There is no problem with my computer recognizing my phone. The problem is with iTunes not recognizing the phone.
Oh ok. Is there any error message that pops up when on iTunes with the phone connected? Is the iTunes app up to date?
Thanks for your replies. There are no error messages. I’m running the latest version of iTunes.

Can you be specific? Which version is listed in iTunes' Help/About iTunes?
The version of iTunes is 12.11.3.17 (64-bit). I first removed the existing version on my computer, and then downloaded and installed the one I mentioned above.
