2015 mac keeps update looping.

I don't believe this has to do with an os update, although I don't know what the update is for. It will appear saying "Downloading new updates..." and then transition to " Download failed - An error occurred while downloading the updates." When you click ok, it instantly tries again and does the loop again. Its updated to Monterey and had no problems for some time until I gave it to my mum and added her mac account to it.

The update to Monterey maybe the version 12.4 released May16, 2022.

Any update or upgrade as in to next version of macOS will Require the computer being Log Into the Admin Account of this computer.

As you have added your Mum to this computer, was she setup as a New Account ? Was that account set as a Standard User.

Is the update to Monterey being perform from your Mums account which is Standard ?

If so, suggest logging Out of your Mums account and back into your Admin Account
