Hi,
I am unable to use click and drag to select multiple files in list view. It still works in icon view.
A long time ago I could click beside a file in list view and drag to select more files, but now, in Monterey, it just selects one file and drags it – is this as intended, or is my Finder broken?

I tried it again, and I've found that it does work as you say (yay!). It seems that 45• is the threshold between dragging or selecting. I have been to enthusiastic in my horizontal motion while trying to select files.

I usually use the shift click option too, but if I click in the empty space next to the file and drag down or up in the empty space that works as well.
FWIW, as long as you start by clicking in a blank space (area in red), it makes no difference if you drag vertically or diagonally. You just can't click on an icon or text.
Ok, I found the lasso selection in List view is a Windows thing if you click+diagonal drag to select multiple files. In Monterey, click+vertical drag selects multiple files, but click+diagonal drag selects 1 file and drags it.
picas is correct. You have to click & drag on an empty space. Do not click on an icon or text.
In list view, I click first file, shift click last file and drag. That's always worked for me.
I've never been able to do what you describe.
In macOS Monterey 12.4, and in list view, I can either click and drag to select a range of adjacent files, or click the first item, press the shift-key, and click the last intended item to inclusively select all between those two click points.

This applies to Column view. List view should work as VikingOSX describes.
