Apple ID verification

I am trying to update some apps I’ve installed, however, apple always ask for a verification code. So I enter my password and then it says a verification code has been sent to “my iPad”, but I don’t have any other device connected to the Apple ID that I’m using. I do however use to have an iPad but it is not included in the trusted device list. What’s gone wrong and how can I fix this?
