The SIM phone number on an iPad has nothing to do with cellular telephone service. It is used by celllar data service providers as an account identifier only. An iPad does not have a cellular telephone voice modem and cannot connect to any carriers cellular telephone voice system. An iPad is a cellular data only device.

To use cellular telephone voice features on an iPad (voice calls, SMS & MMS texting) the iPad must be paired with an iPhone.
