I discovered that apple music has crossfade and decided to test it, but it did not work even after multiple restarts. Is this caused by my OS or is it because it has to do something with lossless audio?

I don't think lossless works with Windows. Crossfade should work with locally downloaded tracks when you're playing from the computer's speakers. If you're using AirPlay or are streaming tracks from the cloud then not so much.
