2009 IMac as second monitor
I’m working remote and would like to connect my iMac as a second screen to my work laptop (Not an apple laptop). Can this be done?

The now-defunct Target Display Mode was designed, intended, and supported as only Mac-to-Mac. Apple never documented any other use.
Even had you a Mac laptop 2019 or older, a 2009 iMac had to be an 27-inch model to work as a display for another Mac. You don't say what your iMac is.
