How to connect additional monitor to Mac

I need dual monitors to work remotely from home. I have the cable, but the additional monitor isn't connecting to main desk MAC.

Please follow the information in Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support. The problem is you likely need an adapter to complete the cabling. Once you know the connection you want to use on your new external display you then need to find the correct adapter, you can buy these from www.apple.com and other sources but please buy quality adapters as cheap ones simply may not work.
