Plugged in my phone last night and it was charging, woke up and now it won’t turn on/screen is black.

Try a forced reboot.
Quickly press and release volume up, then volume down, then press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
I’ve tried that and nothing happens. Is it possible last nights update crashed my phone?
If it doesn't light up at all, then the problem wasn't the update. Either the battery is completely flat or it's a hardware failure.
