I seem to have solved the problem by accident, and I don't even know what I did. It seems that I long pressed on the video screen in theatre mode then a context menu popped up, then I clicked elsewhere to cancel the context menu and I went into full screen mode ........ It came back to normal.

Same problem here. I think it’s an issue on YouTube’s end. They changed something and now it won’t keep the original aspect ratio. Very annoying.
