As of a few days ago, I can’t manage to play certain videos / streams on my tv. The videos work fine when I don’t have my mac connected to my TV, but as soon as I connect I only have audio and the video playing goes black. Tried to self fix with community questions, but still haven’t been able to get it working again. Any tips?

For now I got it to work using a different browser. It does not work on Chrome or Safari, but so far I have image and audio when screen mirroring using Firefox.
This may be due to some digital rights management on those videos.
What is the source of the videos that fail to play?
I assume they play when you are just using your mac, but not when airplaying, right?
You may have to ask the providers of these services.
Could be. YouTube for example still works when I airplay. What doesn’t work now all
of the sudden (but did previously up until 4 days ago) are live sports matches (I have an account and a vpn) and reruns of television programs.
One source for example is ESPN
And yes, when I don’t airplay, the video and sound works. As soon as it connects to AirPlay, screen goes black but the sound continues. It’s driving me nuts!
That's what I think, but the only way to be sure is to ask them.
You have established that Airplay is otherwise working, and since the only time it fails is when playing back video from some subscription service, it seems to me a pretty obvious indication.
How are you connecting to the TV?
Through airplay, both tv and MBP are connected to the same wifi. Note, the same error happened to me at a friends house yesterday. So it’s not related to 1 tv in particular I imagine.
Ok, that sounds like a hard fix.
