very few apps (e.g. waze) allowed my screen to rotate upside down. this allowed me to put the iphone with charging cable in a cup holder, without damaging the cable.
but since upgrading from an iphone 6 to an iphone 12 mini, this feature no longer works. (apparently, it works on phones with thumbprint sensors, but not facial recognition.) why?! or will it ever come back in a future ios release?

thank you. but i can go from portrait to landscape, and back, so the problem isn’t with rotation lock, but with the ability to go past landscape to upside down. (i.e. with the power connector up.)
please note that the developer has confirmed that the feature is available on iphones with thumbprint id, but not on iphones with face id. (once available, the app still has to choose whether to enable it for the user. for example, “safari” rotates, but “contacts” doesn’t. meanwhile, “waze” supports all 4 orientations, if it can.)
it’s a software “feature” which could be changed fairly easily by apple in a future ios release. i wish they would.
