you have to swipe down from the upper right to access control center. Or you can put a battery widget on your Home Screen or Today View. Or you can ask Siri

Not on any phone with Face ID, only on phones with Home buttons. There is no room in the status bar for battery percentage on phones with the “notch” at the top.
