How do I update to the latest macOS?

I need to update my MacBook to OS v10.15, however whenever I go to the app store I get a message that there are no updates to be installed. How do I update to the latest macOS?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Pro model you have, click on Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey; they're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list. It needs to be at least a 2012 one to run a newer OS.

Catalina and newer won't run 32-bit software; download and use Go64 to scan for it. To check other programs, click here and look them up.
