That answers my question. When I would search for something "near me" it would seemingly pick a location for me at random. Once I was in Texas, and another time in Chicago :)

Yes. Apple Maps on Mac does not require Wi-Fi, just a connection.
Actually, muguy is not quite correct. Maps will not show your current location if Wi-Fi is not enabled. Location Services will also not work.
