How do I import the music on a CD into the Music app on an iPad? On my iMac I have iTunes, but this isn’t available on my iPad. The only app that appears to be available (apart from third party software) is Music and that is very restrictive. I’ve never used it because the contents are not to my taste and most of the radio stations on it are American. It doesn’t even have the BBC radio stations on it!

Music CDs can be imported into your iTunes Music Library on PC/Mac - and then synchronised with your iPad/iPhone/iPod using iTunes/Finder.
Sync iTunes content on PC with your devices – Apple Support
Synchronised media is then available for playback using the iOS/iPadOS Music App; if not already installed on your device, the App can be downloaded again from the Apple App Store:

Problem solved thanks. One problem I have with the Apple support pages is that you often search for information on how to do things, but it is more than likely you will not find the right page - there's so much of it! and in line with many websites you can read as much as you like and never be certain you have covered all relevant pages.
I shall suggest some sort of index to their feedback page.
If there are issues with certain songs being unable to be played on your iPhone music app, I would suggest using alternative apps that can play mp3s. It will mean ripping the mp3s from the CDs and downloading it to the specific app but it may be helpful if you experience any restrictions with the music app that comes preinstalled.
