Predictive text bar on iPad w/ Magic Keyboard

I have M1 iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard and it is driving me nuts that the predictive text is hidden in that floating settings button that lives in the left corner. For the life of me I can’t figure out how to make it stay visible. I have to tap it every single time I write out a message. Horrible design. Even autocorrect seems to not be working unless I tap that button. Any advice?
