Why can't I add a card in Contacts?

Contacts on Big Sur just doesn't work. I go to add a Card, and while lion the middle of editing it, it disappears. Nowhere to be found. How is it even possible that such a horrible bug exists?

Mac mini 2018 or later

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

How is it even possible that such a horrible bug exists?

Possibly because very few people experience it.

Years ago, people using a Gmail contacts account had similar problems. I don't know if that is still an issue. I think it was caused by Gmail trying to sync the contact before it was completed. Maybe that happens with other types of accounts.

I have never experienced it with iCloud.

Is the partially completed contact card at the bottom of the list. That's where they ended up in the gmail issue I noted.
