Press option and tap the key of the accent you want.

Release option and type e

è é ë ê ñ

` e u i n

values below the accented line show the key returning the accent returned when the option key is pressed. The first is the key directly below esc on the US and Canadian English keyboard layouts. Use th Keyboard viewer to determine the effects of the option key (and other modifier keys) in the keyboard layout you use.

Hi Tom,

That works too, and gives a larger choice of accents to be applied to individual letters.

Could be better than the method I mentioned.

I don't have much use for these accents in day to day writing, and find the 'press and wait' process more disruptive than using the option key, then the letter key with no wait required.

Agreed. Press and Hold pretty much destroys any efficient way of typing, and it's a feature I would never have suggested anyone add to MacOS.
