Music is Over-Playing Itself

Selecting Music Icon on Desktop Stops the Music when Playing

When I click on a MP3 file (Home Music), the MP3 file automatically plays.

The Music App, however, does not open, nor is it anywhere to be seen in the Force Quit... menu.

Why is this happening? I cannot seem to find a way around it.

Note that this is an MP3 file --it is not music purchased from the iTunes Store. Also note that music purchased from the Apple Store works perfect.

Thanks ed2345.

Gave the User Tip a Shot.

I backed up my library, and then deleted a the duplicates. Restarted the Mac and have been fine more half a day. But the issue now is that it's able to be played while its already bing played. No duplicates are made, but when dragged onto the Desktop, and I play it. It is replay-able, and all that is shown is one item in the Library. Only Music is open; Quicktime is not.

"The Littles, When you play the file from the desktop with the Music app, it gets added to your Music library. If your "Copy..." preference is set to Yes, it will put a copy of the file into your Media folder, and you can discard the copy on the desktop. Once the song is in the library, please play it from the library, and avoid handling the files directly."

It seems it has been duplicated.

The Down Arrow:

Look above the words "Remove Download". There is a down arrow. Not so certain about that down arrow. Apparently it has already been downloaded:

The Littles,

When you play the file from the desktop with the Music app, it gets added to your Music library. If your "Copy..." preference is set to Yes, it will put a copy of the file into your Media folder, and you can discard the copy on the desktop.

Once the song is in the library, please play it from the library, and avoid handling the files directly.

"unless there is some particular reason for doing so, do not drag files to the desktop while they are being played."

Just to Verify:

So, dragging a MP3 file to the Desktop, do you get that Play triangle, and play it while Music is playing it in the background.

Made Quicktime Player the Default:

This occurs to a Music file in any folder. And I guess I'd have to add it to my iTunes Music Library to avoid this. Opening a MP3 file with Quicktime Player as the default player is the way around this. So, that's what I've done.
