Troubleshooting iCloud Storage:
The 50GB is Cloud Storage.
Note that internal storage never changes, even if you upgraded your iCloud plan. This is cloud storage --not for internal storage. Learn More here: What's the Difference Between Device Storage and iCloud Storage? Apple Support
It is a monthly subscription. If you stop paying, then it will revert back to the 5 free gigs. Any data that was in the extra storage space beyond 5 gigs will be deleted.
You pay it monthly for as long as you want the extra storage. When you stop paying, the extra space will go away.
