I have a modest collection of music on my MacBook. I have recently transferred the music library to iCloud.
Using the Files app on the iPhone I can see all the files.
I do not subscribe to Apple Music.
How can I access this music on my iPhone using iOS?

I have downloaded the File Explorer Pro app (the simpler version appeared to offer very little)
I can see my music files on iCloud but I could already to that in the Files app.
I can open an individual music file and play it. However I can do the same thing in Files. I can find no way of creating and playing a playlist. What am I missing?

It true, Playlisting isn’t supported. I use a 3rd party app to keep my ripped files separate from my Apple Music subscription, which IMO complicated matters. If you prefer Apple Music however, muguy’s method looks promising. All the best.

It doesn't do exactly what I had in mind but I can now play all my music library on the iPhone, thanks.
What it seems to have done it so copy the library from the laptop to the phone. I had hoped that I could access the music library on iCloud.
Use a 3rd party player. I use File Explorer Pro, but the free version is good to, ad-free. Player is built-in.
You'll need to sync your device to your MacBook in order to be able to use Apple Music on the iOS device.
Thanks but I am trying to do it without subscribing to Apple Music!! Is it possible?
You do not need to subscribe to Apple Music to sync your music onto your device. Just add your songs to the Music app. Then plug in your device to sync your songs.
