Why is Find My required to be on in order to have password protection from a reset?

Hey Folks,

I turned off Find My Iphone and got this:

"In addition, your Apple ID and password will no longer be required for someone to erase, reactivate, and use your iPhone. "

This is a crazy change. Why on Earth would I want password protection to be dropped? Is this broken or is there a really good reason why Apple would choose to make iphones an easily stolen device?

If somebody grabbed your iPhone while you were walking down the street and it was logged in with your passcode and there were no additional seurity features then they could just change the passcode and erase is so they would now have a free iPhone.

That isn't a change. Find My iPhone is what protects your device in the event it is lost or stolen. If you turn it off, you are removing that protection.
