watch pausing when exercising

I have an apple watch series 6 that regularly pauses when i am doing a workout, whether it be running, weight training or bike riding. This is extremely frustrating! I do have tattoos on my wrist however i strap the watch on a 'clean' bit of skin.

Surely an update can be released where this feature is able to be disabled? Or at least made less sensitive?
