USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter.

Is the USB-C female port designed only to carry power, or should it carry data also?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Thank you, Grant. I wish the text on Apple’s shopping page had made that clearer. Does the symbol

- - -

___ mean power only? I’m still happy with the adapter; I just wasted time trying to find out if power-only on the USB-C was by design or a defect.

If you mention the Digital AV Multiport adapter is following and available at online and retail Apple Store, I think it carry data as well as power.

Thank you for your answer. I went to the page you linked and it says this:

The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your USB-C-enabled Mac or iPad to an HDMI display, while also connecting a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable.

For the USB-C connection, it only mentions a charging cable--power, but not data.

The USB-C port on that adapter is Not a ThunderBolt port. It is is for charging, ONLY.

If you want, you can use the USB-A port for data, at up to USB-3 speeds with the proper cables (USB-3 cables have five more conductors that USB-2 cables).
