Can't recognize or eject 80gb iPod Classic

Currently running a 2019 MacBook Air w/ MacOS Catalina.

Issue is with 2007-2008 80gb iPod Classic.

Plugged the iPod into the computer. The iPod screen is showing what I would expect - a message saying do not disconnect.

  • iPod does not show up in Apple Music, under Finder devices or on the desktop as it should.
  • The computer is recognizing that it is plugged into 2nd USB slot in the system information.
  • All appropriate check boxes are marked in preferences to display iPods on Desktop and Finder sidebar.
  • All other typical troubleshooting methods listed in this forum have been explored.

Questions:

1) How can I access the iPod on my computer?

2) What is the safest way to eject from the computer when the computer doesn't display the device, and further more, doesn't offer an eject option?

Thanks in advance.
