Why does creating a new User Account sometimes enable FCP and iMovie to work?

Someone on the iMovie forum has eventually discovered that the only way to make iMovie work is to create a new user account.

I know that this is a known cure for certain problems but why does it work and is there any way to enable their own normal account?

A common problem for software is conflicts with other software. Quite a lot of software, especially plugin type software, install code files in the user library. By making a new user you’re eliminating these possible conflicts that are effecting a user.
