Normally when you purchase a track from the iTunes Store, it immediately gets added to your library and downloaded to your Media folder.
If you want to see where it is, perhaps to make a copy, just right-click the track in the library and choose Show in Finder (or Explorer).

Ansmith,
You can use iTunes/Music to make an MP3 per these steps:
Note that the conversion creates a new MP3 and leaves the AAC in place, so you end up with two files. Make sure you grab the right one.

Ginzo,
Usually a copy downloads when you make the purchase. If you need a fresh copy, of something in your purchase history, see in here:

Ansmith,
If you are on a Mac running Music, preferences will be under Music, like the below. If still stuck, post a screenshot.
This is what I see after I hit preferences. Where do I go now? I don't see the import settings to mp3.
Okay thanks I found it! But I need it in an MP3 file how do I convert it from m4a?
Okay, Im not finding where step 2 is. I do the drop down where it has music put I don't see any preferences button.
If I send a screen shot can you tell me where to go?
okay I see now that I am in itunes and not apple music is that okay?

Yes it will work in iTunes too. Just find the Preferences, and from there put Import Settings to MP3.
Click "Import Settings..." -- it is near the bottom, after the Notifications.
Thank you so much! I got it now you helped saved my internship!
