iPad brightness dims but brightness setting doesn’t actually go down.

Software version: 14.4.2

My iPad’s screen slowly dims itself little by little without moving the brightness setting. I’ve turned off True Tone and I’ve turned off auto-brightness.

It’s not a gradual dimming, it’s a little jarring even, it feels like it goes down by 7%-10% with each little jump down, the brightness setting itself still says it’s at max brightness. I’ve noticed it the most in Procreate but it’s happened in a couple other apps.

While writing this, it’s suddenly jumped back up to full brightness again. Seems to be the pattern, a few jumps down before it hops back up suddenly. Any fixes or anyone else having this issue?

Perhaps start by updating your iPad to the current supported version - at the time of writing, this being iPadOS 14.6.
