I got this message when I was searching for a news story:

We have detected a trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx) on your Mac.
Press OK to begin the repair process.
Is this a legit virus/notice? If it is, what should I do?

They are scam popups.
1. Click menu in the menu bar, hold the shift key on the keyboard down and choose “Force Quit Safari” from the dropdown.
Safari will quit.
Launch Safari holding the shift key down.

I quickly realised I'm on Firefox not Safari but I figured your instructions would be the same. All done and hopefully any harm averted!
