Why can't I add rows near the bottom of my table in numbers?

To check how many Header and Footer rows you have, with the table selected just look here:

Or look in the menu at Table > Footer Rows and Table > Header rows.

Also, you mention you don't have any filters turned on. Make might check to make sure you don't have any rows hidden either.

Are you absolutely sure you did not accidentally create 5 footer rows? Does the problem begin on the fifth row from the bottom (including the known footer row in that count)? If you formatted them, they are hard to distinguish from regular rows except by how they are treated in formulas that use column references.

1. Temporarily create a new column. Lets call in column M
2. Put the number 1 in the last six rows of column M (the actual last six rows, including the footer).
3. In a cell somewhere else put the formula =SUM(M)
4. You say you have one footer row so your count should be 5. If it is less, you have more than one footer row. If it is 1 you have 5 footer rows.

Aside from counting up from the bottom you should could also look for a slightly thicker line above the top Footer Row. And when you go to the contextual menu next to a row number of a Footer Row you will not see 'Convert to Footer Row as you do here (where I've selected a row above the Footer Row). If I had selected next to the 7 I wouldn't see that choice in the menu.

You cannot add rows below the footer row, unless they are also footer rows.

You should be able to add rows to the table by clicking or dragging the Row control button at the bottom of the Row reference tabs column. the new rows will be added above the footer row.

You should also be able to add rows below any body row by selecting any cell in the row beow which you want the new row(s) added, the pressing option - down arrow.

I should add that you need to ensure your temporary new column starts out empty, that no formulas or data from the adjacent column were automatically filled into the new column.

Must have been a long day. I gotta laugh at myself for completely spacing on that, especially when I had just used it to set the number of footers in a table.
