Where do I find/how do I save the downoaded MacOS 11.2.2 file?

I just ordered a new 2021 iMac. When I get it, I will send this 2015 iMac in to trade/recycle. Just yesterday I downloaded and installed 11.2.2 on this 2015 iMac. How can I save that file so I can use it again after reformatting this hard drive in preparation to recycle it with Apple? I don't want to have to download it - My internet connection is slow.

I do have external drives I can use.

Thank you. Do you know where the Update file lives? Because the problem that kicked off a very long and sordid chain of events was what I believe to have been a corrupted 11.2.1 update file. I was running 11.1 or 11.2.0 - whatever came before that - on my machine and tried to do that update. It crashed to recover mode and I restored the older version which I've been running for weeks. But last night I stupidly allowed Software Update to reboot my machine and it tried to load the same **** file (dutifully backed up and restored by Time Machine) and did it again - ANOTHER reformat and download from Recovery Mode - etc. etc. NOW I'm successfully running 11.2.2 but I'd sure like to make sure that corrupted 11.2.1 update is GONE (It wouldn't have been deleted because it never ran successfully)

FWIW, first of all I don't know what caused the issue you had updating. Personally I have five different Macs that have been running Big Sur since the first developer release. I updated them all to 11.2.2 without a problem. I just checked the iMac page…

And they are shipping with Big Sur. I don't know which version but once it arrives and you set it up, If it needs updating to 11.2.2, it should go smoothly. I expect your experience was a fluke.

BTW, there is no 2021 iMac, you ordered a 2020 iMac. They are noted by model year not the year you ordered it in. When you receive it, please check About this Mac.

Also, as the configuration is completely different than your 2015 the 11.2 update for the 2015 would not work on a 2020 iMac. Finally a suggestion, because you have a slow connection, you may want to initiate your update on the new Mac for late at night just before going to bed.

I'm sure it was a fluke. When i originally downloaded that 11.2.1 update I was have some real issues with the internet connection - it broke a number of times. Those got resolved by my ISP.

I'm happily running 11.2.2. now - just thinking ahead to when the new machine comes. I'm 98% confident that even if the corrupted (can't remember now if it was update or full OS) file still exists, Apple will be smart enough not to try to load it given that I'm now on a newer, not older version.
