storage and update

how is it possible that a Macbook Air with a Catalina OS on an 8 GB hard drive needs 16+ GB to update?? Am I unable to update?

8GB is the memory on your MacBook Air, not the storage which would be something like 64GB or larger (most likely larger) depending on the age of your MacBook Air.


You can get information on the storage via Apple menu > About this Mac and then click Storage at the top of that window.
