Apple pairing failure

If I can’t update the software on my iPhone 6 Plus beyond iOS 12.5.1, does that mean I can no longer pair my Apple Watch with it and therefore not be able to use my watch?

The iPhone 6 Plus, released by Apple in 2014, cannot be updated beyond iOS 12.5.1.


WatchOS 7 requires iOS 14 or later.
