Children can still change location service

Even though I have screen time enabled, and the setting Don’t Allow on Location services, my children are still

able to turn off location services. I thought as family sharing, screen time could prevent this. This used to be shut down, but since updates, children can change this. Please help!!

Yes! Screen time passcodes are enabled. They can’t change anything without passcode, EXCEPT they can turn off location services without passcode. It’s worked in the past, but with new updates, it can easily be turned off Settings > Privacy > Location Services > viola they can turn it off! Huge safety issue!

TessLuc,

Thank you for the additional information. To confirm, when you tapped Location Services on the Content & Privacy Restrictions screen on one of your children's device, did it prompt for the Screen Time passcode then?

Do you encounter the same issue by turning off Screen Time for each device, restarting the devices, and setting it up again? We know that step may take awhile to complete, but it can reset Screen Time and ensure the settings are set properly and hopefully resolve this issue. If you do continue to encounter this after that, you can contact Apple Support for further assistance here: Contact Apple Support

Best wishes!

Hey there, TessLuc.

We understand children that you manage with Screen Time are able to change Location Services settings after recent updates. To confirm, do you use a Screen Time passcode for your children's device? It would need to be enabled to make certain changes to Screen Time settings. More information on that below from this article: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

"Set Content & Privacy Restrictions

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Continue, then choose "This is My [Device]" or "This is My Child's [Device]."
    • If you're the parent or guardian of your device and want to prevent another family member from changing your settings, tap Use Screen Time Passcode to create a passcode, then re-enter the passcode to confirm. In iOS 13.4 and later, after you confirm your passcode you'll be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. This can be used to reset your Screen Time passcode if you forget it.
    • If you're setting up Screen Time on your child's device, follow the prompts until you get to Parent Passcode and enter a passcode. Re-enter the passcode to confirm. In iOS 13.4 and later, after you confirm your passcode you'll be asked to enter your Apple ID and password. This can be used to reset your Screen Time passcode if you forget it.

3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode, then turn on Content & Privacy.

Make sure to choose a passcode that's different from the passcode you use to unlock your device. To change or turn off the passcode on your child's device, tap Settings > Screen Time > [your child's name]. Then tap Change Screen Time Passcode or Turn Off Screen Time Passcode, and authenticate the change with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode."

If trying to change Location Services on one of your children's devices, are you prompted for the Screen Time passcode? We want to ensure that is working properly, as that should be stopping any changes without the passcode.

Take care.
