Should I remove my sim card before trading in my 4G phone?
I transferred my information from the iPhone 8 to an iPhone 12. I got my iPhone 12 activated without switching SIM cards. Before trading in my iPhone 8 should I remove my old SIM card?

Yes, you should remove it. According to How to prepare your iPhone or Apple Watch for trade-in - Apple Support:
"Remove the SIM card from your iPhone if it uses one and keep it in a safe place."
