I need macOS 10.14 or later on my iMac (27" around mid 2011). I have macOS 10.13.6 currently. Is it possible to get a software update?

Not possible. A 2011 iMac lacks the required hardware to run any macOS version higher than what you now have. It's maxed out.

If you tell us what applications are forcing the issue, we may be able to offer suggestions for alternatives.

MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) requires an iMac models 2012 and newer. Your iMac is no longer able to be upgraded beyond MacOS 10.13.x (High Sierra)

What is your specific problem that has you "needing" 10.14? The only option is to get a new iMac (or buy a later used model) that is still supported by Apple.
