Mail using storage even after removing account from mail app

Im trying to free up space on my MacBook Air, since upgrading too big sur my storage has massively reduced,


so I removed my email account from the mail app but mail is still using 6gb of storage even though the inbox is empty how can this be? what can I doo to free up this 6gb from mail

Press the option key then in Finder click Go menu > Library, open the Mail folder and you should see one or more V# folders where the # corresponds to the version of Mail (which changes with macOS updates, for example Catalina is V7). In there are folders with long hexadecimal names (should not be too many), and in those will be the .mbox files. If you don't want the emails, you can delete those files.
