I want to update my 2012 MacBook Pro's hard drive and memory.

After I have updated with a new hard drive and memory cards, will my MacBook Pro run the latest OS system?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

No,

Im running a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a new Crucial 1TB SSD and Crucial 16gb of RAM and the latest software I can run is macOS Catalina 10.15.7

I think this is all down to the processor and even tho I have a 2.9 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 it still won't update the software.

What I will advise is to upgrade to a SSD as the MacBook will run little quicker and faster along with the ram also.

Thanks again for your help so far. I will be getting the Crucial 16GB RAM that you have and maybe the Crucial 1TB SSD, slightly cheaper than the Samsung SSD800 I had thought about.

Just a couple of points: I've never been into my MacBook Pro, but am I right in thinking I can transfer the whole of the contents of my existing hard drive to the SSD, just using a SATA cable, then install the SSD? Would you recommend using Apple's internal software to do the transfer, or would an app such as Carbon Copy Cloner be better?

I've seen a few videos on utube about updating, so I feel pretty confident about doing it now.

Look forward to hearing from you again.
